Many USI employees have longstanding relationships with the Army’s Rapid Equipping Force (REF).
Over the years, USI has assisted the REF in accomplishing its mission to equip operational commanders with commercial-off-the-shelf and government-off-the-shelf solutions to increase effectiveness and reduce risk, insert future force technologies and surrogates to validate concepts and speed capabilities to the Soldiers and assess Army business practices, desired capabilities, and acquisition techniques to effect institutional Army change. The REF serves as a solutions catalyst, canvassing the military, industry, academia, and the science community for existing and emerging technologies.
Currently, USI supports the REF with world-wide logistics support to sustain, maintain, install and train rapid capability initiatives. Deployed Field Service Technicians (FST) provide this support on over 45 different ISR and Force Protection projects which include; LOS transmitters on aerostat platforms and Wi-Fi unmanned ground sensors, terrestrial sensors, processing servers, communications gear that integrates multipurpose cameras thermal and infrared, antenna installation on rigid and portable mast systems with associated power capability and solar/alternative power programs. These FST’s are responsible for installing and integrating REF systems/network at FOBs and COBs. USI management team has multiple contacts at the NIE events to gather the newest information on incoming technology to share with the FSTs.
